Be the Best Dressed Guest!

It’s that time of year again where the invites start flooding in and then shear panic  “WHAT am I going to wear” starts to set in!

Don’t worry, we’ve all been there but whether it’s your best friend’s wedding, a summer birthday or family get together, sometimes the trick to nailing that perfect event look, is to turn to vintage. Not only can it be more affordable but you’re guaranteed that noone else will be wearing your fabulous look. (Lets face it, noone wants to turn up to a party and find that they’re wearing that same high street dress as their friend…not a good result!!).

So here are our top vintage picks, for those Summer events, all available to purchase on our ASOS boutique.

1970s Halterneck Dress – UK size 8

This gorgeous 1970s halter neck dress is perfect for swanning around a wedding on a hot Summer’s day. Even though it is vintage, it has a modern feel to it, we really love the lace bandeau around the waist!

1970s Paisley Dress – UK Size 8

This dress would be great worn to a summer garden party or wedding, you can’t go wrong with paisley. Jazz it up by wearing a belt, perhaps a sparkly light weight bolero and some statement jewellery and you’re good to go!

1970s Maxi Dress – UK size 8-10

What a perfect dress to wear to a festival! We just love the abstract but simple leaf print against the white background. It really makes the print pop and the cut of the dress is rather flattering too.

1970s Floral Maxi – UK Size 8

Rock the boho look with this fun cotton 70s maxi dress!

1980s Orange Party Dress – UK Size 8-10

A striking colour and unusual design, this dress will make you stand out from the crowd!

1990s Printed Red Dress – UK Size 12-14

Dress this cute Betty Barcley shift, with heeled chunky sandals, big earrings and a light long cardi and your in for a chic but fun 90’s look.

1990s Animal Print Maxi Dress – UK Size 8-12

This sexy dress is perfect for an after party! We love the criss crossed straps at the back and the high slit at the front. Gerrr

1970s Kimono Top – UK Size 8-10

Nature Meets Fashion!

May 27th, 2015 § 0 comments § permalink

We love it when nature inspires fashion and it seems that we have always been inspired by mother nature in one way or another.

After our recent buying trip we realised that we had unknowingly been attracted to lots of items featuring flowers, feathers and leaves!

Unsurprisingly we then read an article about a russian artist Liliya Hudyakova who did a “Fashion and Nature photo series” showing how much we really are connected to our surroundings and how much it influences us”.

“Her Fashion & Nature photo series pairs accomplished fashion designers’ dresses and other pieces with the natural views that she imagines might have inspired them. The resulting juxtapositions draw an undeniable link between the clothing we see on the runway (or even wear) and the world that inspired it. Indeed, some of the oldest known pieces of decorative clothing and jewellery imitate or incorporate nature as well”.

Elie Saab S/S 2014 & Sunset

Marchesa F/W 2012 & Red Leaves

Alexander McQueen S/S 2012 & First Snow Fall In Minnesota, USA

Our find, although sadly not a Alexander McQueen, is this 1970’s watercolour feather print dress in shades of muted blue, white and light purple. The cut and length of the dress is universally flattering and it has a lovely twist with the pleats starting from the waist.

UK Size 12

For sale on ASOS – £30

Next up we have this elegant 1960’s white french shift mini dress with a subtle palm leaf pattern. It looks great with that stripy shirt but quite honestly it looks equally great on it’s own!

UK 10-12

Continuing with the leaves theme, we have this fab blue and purple 1970s summer dress. We love the fact that the dense speckled leaf print only appears at the top and bottom while the white more sparse section in the middle gives the dress a much needed break from the pattern and allows the dress to flow nicely!

UK Size 14

So I guess we’re not so cut off from mother nature as we might have thought.
