Be the Best Dressed Guest!

April 25th, 2016 § 0 comments § permalink

It’s that time of year again where the invites start flooding in and then shear panic  “WHAT am I going to wear” starts to set in!

Don’t worry, we’ve all been there but whether it’s your best friend’s wedding, a summer birthday or family get together, sometimes the trick to nailing that perfect event look, is to turn to vintage. Not only can it be more affordable but you’re guaranteed that noone else will be wearing your fabulous look. (Lets face it, noone wants to turn up to a party and find that they’re wearing that same high street dress as their friend…not a good result!!).

So here are our top vintage picks, for those Summer events, all available to purchase on our ASOS boutique.

1970s Halterneck Dress – UK size 8

This gorgeous 1970s halter neck dress is perfect for swanning around a wedding on a hot Summer’s day. Even though it is vintage, it has a modern feel to it, we really love the lace bandeau around the waist!

1970s Paisley Dress – UK Size 8

This dress would be great worn to a summer garden party or wedding, you can’t go wrong with paisley. Jazz it up by wearing a belt, perhaps a sparkly light weight bolero and some statement jewellery and you’re good to go!

1970s Maxi Dress – UK size 8-10

What a perfect dress to wear to a festival! We just love the abstract but simple leaf print against the white background. It really makes the print pop and the cut of the dress is rather flattering too.

1970s Floral Maxi – UK Size 8

Rock the boho look with this fun cotton 70s maxi dress!

1980s Orange Party Dress – UK Size 8-10

A striking colour and unusual design, this dress will make you stand out from the crowd!

1990s Printed Red Dress – UK Size 12-14

Dress this cute Betty Barcley shift, with heeled chunky sandals, big earrings and a light long cardi and your in for a chic but fun 90’s look.

1990s Animal Print Maxi Dress – UK Size 8-12

This sexy dress is perfect for an after party! We love the criss crossed straps at the back and the high slit at the front. Gerrr

1970s Kimono Top – UK Size 8-10

Lastly, we have this 70’s show stopper of a top. Perfect if you want to make an impact at a party without going crazy.

Floral Inspiration For Spring

March 5th, 2016 § 0 comments § permalink

Spring has officially sprung and although the temperature is reluctant to warm up, we are looking forward to updating our outfits to suit this wonderful season here at PFR HQ.

S/S16 is all about pastel shades (think Peached Pink and Mint Green) so to celebrate the re-birth of floral colour we are featuring our top vintage finds. What better place to look for colour inspiration than nature itself??!

First up we have a Fuscia rose and a beautiful 70s party dress!

Orange Salmon Liniker compliments this 1970s coral dress rather well don’t you think!

A red poppy to match this 1990s red Betty Barclay dress

Not strictly floral but the colour of this 1960s raw green  silk dress reminds us of cacti!

Looking Good During the Winter Months

December 11th, 2015 § 0 comments § permalink

The winter months seem to be a lot more changeable these days.

One year it can be below freezing, making layering imperative but other years it can be spring like in October, which quite frankly is rather confusing when it comes to deciding what to wear!!!

So it’s December again, boy time flies and we find ourselves yet again wondering what on earth the weather has in store for us.

Have no fear PFR are here…..

We’ve added loads of new stock to our ASOS Boutique to help with those confusing weather days and hopefully find you the perfect outfit.

1) You can pair this lovely MOD white blouse with jeans, if it’s a bit cold out there or with a cute mini skirt.

2) Like most mixed wool cardigans, you can add a light cropped jacket or a warm coat over the top and you know that you’ll be nice and toasty.  In fact, if it has a bit of sparkle, you can pretty much pair a cardi with any outfit.

3) This white sparkly handmade jumper has a larger knit to it, which makes it perfect for either a warmish day or a cold one. Fab!

4) Ok so we’ve probably gone a bit sparkle mad here but who doesn’t love a bit of spark?! This 1980’s Silk Blouse/top will def add a bit of glam to any outfit (dressed up or down).

We love to layer in Winter, it’s what we naturally want to do, but as it seems to be warmer this season don’t put away some of those glam summer frocks, instead keep a few of your favourites out and pair them with thicker tights, ankle boots, a cropped (wool) coat and a fab wide brimmed hat.

Nature Meets Fashion!

May 27th, 2015 § 0 comments § permalink

We love it when nature inspires fashion and it seems that we have always been inspired by mother nature in one way or another.

After our recent buying trip we realised that we had unknowingly been attracted to lots of items featuring flowers, feathers and leaves!

Unsurprisingly we then read an article about a russian artist Liliya Hudyakova who did a “Fashion and Nature photo series” showing how much we really are connected to our surroundings and how much it influences us”.

“Her Fashion & Nature photo series pairs accomplished fashion designers’ dresses and other pieces with the natural views that she imagines might have inspired them. The resulting juxtapositions draw an undeniable link between the clothing we see on the runway (or even wear) and the world that inspired it. Indeed, some of the oldest known pieces of decorative clothing and jewellery imitate or incorporate nature as well”.

Elie Saab S/S 2014 & Sunset

Marchesa F/W 2012 & Red Leaves

Alexander McQueen S/S 2012 & First Snow Fall In Minnesota, USA

Our find, although sadly not a Alexander McQueen, is this 1970’s watercolour feather print dress in shades of muted blue, white and light purple. The cut and length of the dress is universally flattering and it has a lovely twist with the pleats starting from the waist.

UK Size 12

For sale on ASOS – £30

Next up we have this elegant 1960’s white french shift mini dress with a subtle palm leaf pattern. It looks great with that stripy shirt but quite honestly it looks equally great on it’s own!

UK 10-12

Continuing with the leaves theme, we have this fab blue and purple 1970s summer dress. We love the fact that the dense speckled leaf print only appears at the top and bottom while the white more sparse section in the middle gives the dress a much needed break from the pattern and allows the dress to flow nicely!

UK Size 14

So I guess we’re not so cut off from mother nature as we might have thought.

Summer Finds From The 60’s & 70’s…

May 22nd, 2015 § 0 comments § permalink

We have loads of new stock for the summer and when the weather decides to get with the program, you’ll be glad to be wearing some of our latest beauties!

First up is this amazing lipstick red 1970’s boho maxi dress. We really love the navy crape panel which is located on the bust and back of the dress. It has small embroidered flowers on it and surrounding the panel there is lovely ribbon edging. The puffed sleeves are just to die for and again the ribbon is featured on the sleeves and hem. Such a striking dress!!!

UK Size 8

Continuing with the red theme we have this wonderful heavy cotton 1970’s red boho high waisted skirt. We love the little people that are featured in the embroidered pattern. This is probably from south america as this sort of item was very popular in the 1970’s as young hippies ventured into Guatemala and Mexico for there first traveller experience.

UK Size 8

We fell in love with this 1970’s soft floral cotton summer dress. It’s such a flattering shape and the floral pattern is rather darling. It’s the perfect dress for those hot summer days lazing about in the garden or wondering about cobbled streets on holiday or out and about shopping in the antique markets of Paris.

UK Size 12

This dress really has the wow factor in our books. There are so many things to love about this dress it’s hard to know where to start…As we have to start somewhere I would say the first thing that really hit us was it’s amazing colour. It’s so striking and really works on all skin types. Also the feminine floaty see through chiffon sleeves, the simple but beautifully shaped skirt, the ruffled detail to the bodice not to mention that low back which really adds a bit of drama and elegance to this wonderful dress. It really is stunning on!

UK Size 14-16

This gorgeous fine 1970’s paisley dress looks so fantastic on! It has two cute little black buttons thats do up at the front and a lightly elasticated waist so the dress can be thrown on. It could easily be that dress you always wear because it looks so great with everything. Yep that dress!!! If it’s over your swimming cozy while you sip martini’s on the beach or you pair it with platform shoes (and that new black kimono jacket from TopShop you just had to have) either way it’s versatility is endless and you will love it.
